Welcome to the website for the Albanian Student Association at the University of Connecticut. We are a dedicated group of students focused on informing the world about the existence of Albania. In buoyant spirits we hope to raise awareness for our culture and customs. Throughout these pages you will find information about our association containing past and planned events, achievements and goals of the Albanian Students here at the University of Connecticut.
On Friday, November 24th many Albanian students from University of Connecticut, Post University and other surrounding universities gathered in Waterbury, CT for the raising of the Albanian Flag downtown Waterbury.
There were about 40 of us [students] that met up early in the morning in order to go and support the Albanian community with our presence at the raising of the flag in Waterbury. Officers from the Waterbury Police Department escorted the caravan of cars filled with Albanian students waving the double headed eagle flags out the sunroofs and windows. As we approached the city hall we were welcomed by the mayor of Waterbury Mr. Jarjura, firefighters, police officers as well as numerous Albanians that came out this special day. More of an Albanian atmosphere was created when the students started dancing valle and singing national Albanian songs. The ceremony was started by Mr. Jonuz Kulla. Mayor Jarjura entitled Mr. Bushka "Mayor of the Day". Mr. Bushka was recognized for coming to waterbury and helping out the community, especially the albanian community with his support. Speeches were also held by guest speakers where they informed us that monuments of Gjergj Kastrioti "Skandebeg" in addition to the one in Tiranë are now present in Prishtinë and Shkup. The ceremony was closed with speeches from students Redis Kelmendi-Central Connecticut State University (UCONN Alumni) and Sokol Bala-Post University.
